Friends,
As you all know, it has been really hot here lately! With temperatures skirting up around one hundred degrees for weeks on end, proper on the bike hydration and nutrition become even more important than usual. A few key tips for staying hydrated while biking are:
-Pre-Hydrate. Drink water during the course of your normal day, even when you are not on the bike.
-Take in fluids even if you are not “thirsty”. It is an excellent idea to take sips from your water bottle every time it even crosses your mind. By doing this, you are basically addressing dehydration before it occurs. This is just preventative maintenance for your body on the bike.
-In really hot weather, it could be a good idea to supplement one’s water intake with a sports drink of some sort. These beverages offer electrolyte replacement and some products will even increase your caloric intake, decreasing your chances of a total bonk out in the hot sun.
-Eat some solid foods as well. Your body needs more than just water. Nutrients found in energy bars and gels will help you feel better for longer on hot days.
-On really long rides, bring the hydration pack. That’s 70 to 100 ounces of fluids right there!
So, hydration and nutrition are always very important in biking, but even more so in hot weather like we’ve had here as of late. So it is with great elation that we announce our Hydration and Nutrition product sale! All of our hydration packs, both by Camelbak and Dakine, will be 15% off from now through the Bridge to Bridge Challenge Century ride on September 16. Nutrition products including all Hammer products, Endurox products, Cytomax products, and all Nuun products will all be 15% off as well. So this is the time to stock up on your hydration and nutrition needs for the remainder of the season.
Thanks and we’ll see you soon!

Hanes Park Classic - -8/5/07
This Sunday is the Hanes Park Classic! This is a fantastic day down in the West End. Not only is there quality bike racing for participants and spectators alike, but this is a full-blown family fun experience! The promoter, Winston-Salem based Cyclesafe.org, has done an excellent job in spear–heading this day and making it a true top notch happening in Winston-Salem. This year, the pro race is part of the prestigious NRC calendar, which insures that some of the country’s top cycling talent will be in attendance. Amateur racing begins in the morning, there is a 5k run at 2:05 in the afternoon, followed by the pro race at 3:30. There are also kid friendly attractions in the expo area, and the course rolls right in front of the MOB, so we will be rockin’ for sure! The race promoter can always use more volunteers for this event, so if you’d like to help out please let us know. For more information about this fun time, please visit www.cyclesafe.org.
Thanks and we’ll see you soon!
